We are delighted to announce that Owen Thompson, as of 21st November 2022, has officially been voted in by our members and he has very kindly accepted the position of the Battalion President.

Owen Thompson has been the Member of Parliament for Midlothian since 2019, and between 2015-17. He has been a lifelong supporter of the Boys’ Brigade, having served in the 1st Loanhead Company and as a motivational speaker at Queen’s Badge Completion Courses. In 2021, Owen re-established the All-party Parliamentary Group for the Boys’ Brigade and has served as Chair since. He has used the group as a platform for sharing the BB’s work with MPs and Peers, as well as publicising the BB’s five-year strategy and initiatives such as BB at Home. He has used his role as a Parliamentarian to call on the Government to ensure that youth groups like the BB do not lose out on funding opportunities as a result of leaving the EU. Owen has championed the work of local BB volunteers in Midlothian, such as by nominating Jim Ralston of the 1st Loanhead Boys’ Brigade for Volunteer Midlothian’s Dedicated Service to Volunteering Award in 2022.
