Congratulations to Ann Marshall, 51st Bonnyrigg and the Leaders in Boys' Brigade Midlothian for being nominated for awards at Volunteers' Week Awards Ceremony last night. The event was organised by Volunteer Midlothian and hosted by Newbattle Abbey College.
Ann Marshall, 51st Bonnyrigg was nominated for the Long Service to Volunteering Award - this award recognises a high level of commitment to volunteering and is open to those who have contributed at least 5 years to an organisation’s work.
Ann's citation read: Ann Marshall has been volunteering with the 51st Boys' Brigade for the past 40 years and has demonstrated lifelong dedication. She gives 100% to the community and her lack of selfishness should be recognised. Her commitment has helped countless young boys from getting into trouble and going down the wrong path. She has been an inspiration to generation upon generation and has given up weekdays as well as weekends for almost a lifetime. This lady goes above and beyond.
The Leaders in Boys' Brigade Midlothian were nominated for the Service to the Community Award – this award recognises those volunteers who offer their time and skills to provide essential services to our (Midlothian) community.
BB Midlothian's citation read: The Boys' Brigade Volunteers in Midlothian help give children & young people opportunities and experiences beyond what is possible in school or at home. Volunteers run the Boys' Brigade groups, working together to provide a safe, secure and happy environment for children & young people to enjoy. Some volunteers have been involved for a few weeks with the longest serving being involved for 38 years. The team provide opportunities for the children & young people to have fun, play games & sport, develop their confidence, learn new skills, have new experiences, go on a residential trip, and engage with friends. Put simply, without volunteers, The Boys' Brigade wouldn't function.
Thanks to Kenneth Hall, Captain of 1st Dalkeith and John Mann, Officer-in-Charge in 1st Roslin for representing The Boys' Brigade in Midlothian at the Awards Ceremony.
The Boys' Brigade in Edinburgh, Leith and District was awarded an Inspiring Volunteering Team Achievement Award in 2015 from Volunteer Edinburgh.
We want to say a massive thank you to our 200 volunteers for all that they do but we still need more volunteers to reach out to more children & young people.
Could you give a little of your time?
You can make a difference.
